Where have all the male tales gone?

Chandigarh Times
After Love Marriage, its all about Lipstick and Kittie Party. Sure, if you are the Bhabhi of the Kutumb then you also have Kkusum, Kumkum, Kammal and Devi for company. A typical Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki … it can be traced to the simple fact of life that Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi! Women-on-top or what?
This summary of everyday TV darshan in hamara bharat mahan clearly states that television has become a For Women’s only domain. (De) glorifying the Bharatiya nari who is either a Sita or a siren… yet takes some sort of a stand once in a while… the soapbusters make you wonder where have the men gone?
Notwithstanding that soaps are conceived keeping the typical middle class homemaker in the mind (that’s how they are named on women) yet how is it that the males have lost their voice altogether?
Witnessing the serials on air, one would think that India is a country where women make all the decisions regarding home and hearth as well as Office Office. A case in point being the once -upon -a -time good bahu Parvati who is now masterminding the destruction of her sinister sister in law so that her family can reclaim its lost glory (read the same bungalow in all Balaji serials).
Even as the makers would lead us to believe that it’s Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, we know otherwise! Wouldn’t the lady do better if just took her husband (Om) in confidence and planned the whole thing with him rather than treating him as a man who’ll lose his marbles once-I-tell-him-the-wickedthoughts-my-mind-canthink-of !
For that matter, why doesn’t Bhabhi tell that what’s-his-name-husband of hers, the truth behind the paternity of the child she’s saddled with? Maybe she’s scared that his sensitive male ego won’t be able to take it! And while we are there, can someone please explain why Prerna had to get married to a man double her age only to save her boyfriend Anurag’s business fortunes in Kasautti Zindagii Kay?
Didn’t she have faith in her man’s ability? That way, Anurag’s ex-wife Komolika with all her devious misdeeds held him in much higher regard!
There’s male bashing and there’s this projection of men as wimps but how long can this go on? With hardly any strong male protagonist centered show on TV except perhaps Kehta Hai Dil where Aman Verma in his role of ACP Aditya Pratap Singh is probably the only man who is glorifying the common man… TV, for the major part makes you believe that males are good enough only to anchor shows (KBC, Khuljja Sim Sim, Simply Shekhar)! In that case, will real the Indian man, stand up, please!
