Shweta has passed her Kasautii…

With over half a million people following the life of Prerna Basu like a religion, it’s hard not to notice Shweta Tiwari.

“What I find strange is that people know me more by my screen name than my real name,” says this Malad Link Road resident, who recently moved to another building on the same road.

But isn’t that obvious, what with Star Plus’ Kasautii Zindagii Kay topping TRP charts week after week.

It’s hard to believe that this 24-year-old is not only married but also has a four-year-old daughter. “I started acting only after marriage. I began with theatre five years ago and got noticed by a director while I was doing a play Khoobsoorat Bahu,” she reveals.”

While acting in a serial called Aane Waala Pal on Doordarshan, Ekta Kapoor noticed Tiwari and offered her a negative role in Karam. Soon Kaleerain and Kahin Kissi Roz followed.

But it was her character of Prerna Basu that finally drew all the spotlights on her. “My role in Kasautii… is definitely my dream role,” says this Commerce graduate from Burhanis College in Mazgaon.

Having been on air for three years now, the daily soap has seen the wildest twists but the audience just can’t seem to get enough of Anurag and Prerna’s love story.

“You will not believe this but Cezzane Khan (Anurag) and have not been on talking terms for two years now,” says Tiwari.

After attaining an iconic status as Prerna on television, is Tiwari now planning to take the next obvious step to Bollywood? “I don’t mind doing movies but this serial leaves me no time for anything else,” says this winner of the 2004 Star Parivaar Award for the best bahu.
Curious about the kind of a relationship she shares with her producer Ekta Kapoor, I ask Tiwari if she’s ever had arguments over the way her character’s taking shape.

“Ekta is an excellent producer. If I need to go out for a couple of days for an ad shoot, she changes the storyline just to suit my schedule. I couldn’t have asked for more,” claims Tiwari.

Having carved a niche for herself, does Tiwari have any words of wisdom for aspiring actors? She says, “Always believe in yourself. Strive hard and luck can’t run away from you.”
