Raja Choudhary and Shweta Tiwari

Post Nach Baliye 2, Raja Choudhary and Shweta Tiwari are spending a lot of time together on the sets.

Apart from the fact that they are still practising to return to Nach Baliye as the wild card entry, Raja is producing a Bhojpuri film with friends Rajiv Singh and Nandvani, where Shweta plays the lead opposite Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kissen. Raja plays a baddie in the film. Titled Hamar Saiyya Hindustani, the film will be directed by Mohanji Prasad.

The couple has kept the film under wraps, and has been shooting for it even before they were voted out from Nach Baliye 2. Nearly 75 per cent of the film is ready. The shooting is taking place in and around Mumbai. Raja says, “We don’t have the time to shoot outside Mumbai as Shveta’s hands are full with Kasautii Zindagii Kay and her Reliance radio assignment.”

Raja says it wasn’t easy for him to make Shweta agree to do this project because of her hectic schedules.

Rajiv offers, “Shweta has been shooting for nearly 21 hours every day for the past few days. We are shooting this film mostly at night, after she is done with her TV and radio work. We couldn’t have thought of anybody else for this role. She’s an awesome actress whose big screen talent has not been tapped properly.”

Love ke liye

The story revolves around Ravi and Shweta. Ravi plays a village bumpkin who comes to the city and falls in love with Shweta, who plays a renown-ed dancer. Shweta meets with an accident and is sent off to recover at a family friend’s home at a hill-station, where she gets physically involved with Ravi.

Shweta becomes pregnant and Raja, who plays the baddie, tries to kill the baby because he wants to marry Shweta. “What happens thereafter forms the remainder of the story. But let’s not talk about that. We want people to come and see the film,” Rajiv says.

“I am tired of giving explanations!” –shweta

“I am tired of giving explanations!”

Interview of the week: By Yasmeen Faruqi
You are said to have told the other contestants to underplay their performances so that you could win. Comment. Am I mad to do that? And even if that was true, why would anyone listen to me. It’s the most weird story I have heard about myself. There have been several nasty things said about me in the past but this takes the cake. I don’t know where this kind of story originated. My theory is that I may have joked with a fellow contestant which could have led to such stories. I am tired of giving an explanation about this.

You are said to be playing games. Like getting Narayani Shastri ousted and then making a small face about it. Narayani even made a jibe about it…
She never said that. And she sent me an SMS negating it after that report appeared. Now why would she say that she had been misquoted if she had indeed said it. I am not her friend nor does she owe me anything that she needs to clarify her stand with me, but nevertheless she had the decency to do so.

It is alleged that Star Plus is promoting you because you are the star of their show Kasauti Zindagi Ki?
Now that is entirely wrong. If it was true why would my grades fall. In the first episode we had 10 grades, in the second it went down to 9 and in the third it went down to 7. This was because there werelesser days to rehearse with every episode. Wouldn’t you see an escalation of grades if I was indeed the channels favourite. Why only me, Hussain is the channels face too. Why aren’t fingers being pointed at him?

It was quite a fiasco when Saroj Khan made a dramatic deduction of your score from 10 to 8. Did you take it as an insult?
See, it was my birthday that day and Sarojji probably got emotional and gave me the top score. But I went up to her and told her to give me as much as my performance deserved and not more or less. That’s when she gave me 8. So there’s no question of getting upset.  I was happy with that too.

It is said that your husband Raja is a weak dancer while your performance shields his weakness…
No, infact I would say he’s better than me. That’s because he is ready to do things he hasn’t done before and quite enthusiastically so.

It is said that this show brings couples closer?
Well, I have been married for seven to eight years now, so the chemistry better be there. But yes, our strength is that we cover up for each other. Like there are times when either of us can’t do a step so we opt for something that suits us both. The co-ordination and understanding brings us closer.

How’s your daughter Palak reacting to all this?
Oh, she does not like to come on the sets. She says ‘aap log mera bahut insult karate ho’ (laughs). Our falling grades embarrass her. Now she is out of town to celebrate Diwali while we were busy with our rehearsals here.

Who’s your favourite jodi?
I like seeing Hussain-Tina dance. They look very sweet together especially Tina who is a very sweet girl. They invariably bring a smile on the face.

Shweta Tiwari Out Of ‘ Nach Baliye 2’

Shweta Tiwari Out Of ‘ Nach Baliye 2’
[19 Oct 2006]
One of the most popular personalities on television, ‘Prerna’ of ‘Kasauti Zindagi Ki’ Shweta Tiwari, is out of ‘Nach Baliye 2.’ Her ouster has taken the television world by a feeling of shock and disappointment.

Shweta and husband Raja were among the better dancers on the show so it’s surprising that they got the axe. Only a couple of weeks back, the couple was in a controversy after judge Saroj Khan told a tabloid that someone ‘big’ from the channel (Star One) had asked her to give the couple full marks.

But that doesn’t seem to have helped much. Now, they can only hope that the wild card facility (the judges have an option to get back one couple of their choice) can help them in some way. But that’s only a possibility at a later stage.

I am not the Channel’s favorite

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Shweta Tiwari’s putting the final touches of her make-up before her disco dance performance. But more than the anxiety of the competition, one notices signs of exasperation. Reason being the recent controversy that she had asked the other contestants to underplay their performance so that her jodi wins hands down “Mujhe kya paagal kutte ne kaata hai aisa kehne ko?” she hollers. “And why on earth would anyone listen to me? It’s the most stupid story that one can think of. I would love to know from where it originated. Yes, there is the competitive streak which can lead to bitchiness but this is the limit.”

She also defends the allegation that Narayani Shastri made a jibe at her after her ouster “She never said that. If she had, she wouldn’t text me to say that she had been misquoted. We are not friends nor am I giving her work for her to clarify her stand to me, but she sent me a sms saying that she would never say such things.”

It is being said that Star Plus is heavily promoting her because she is the star of their show ‘Kasauti Zindagi Ki’. “If that was so, then my grades wouldn’t have fallen from 10 in the first episode to 9 in the second and 7 in the third. Hussain is a ‘Star Plus’ face too, so he should have been promoted too while Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar should have got the lowest points because they aren’t with the channel. But as you can see, one is getting scores as per their performance. So what would you say to that?” she counter questions.

Shweta also offers an explanation for judge Saroj Khan’s deduction of her marks from 10 to 8 in an episode saying, “I went up to Sarojji and told her to give me as much as I deserved and not be driven by emotions That’s when she gave me 8 and I was happy with that too.”

The general view is that her husband Raja is a weak dancer but she thinks otherwise. “My husband is better than me. He is improving with every performance,” quips Shweta.

Shweta feels that reality shows are here to stay. “Sure, the camera catches you rehearsing and even comes into your home. But they do capture you with prior permission. I am not caught unawares at any time and I am definitely cautious when the camera is on. There is no hidden camera,” signs off Shweta.

Shweta’s rambles of distraction

Shweta’s rambles of distraction
   By: Sandipan Dalal
   October 16, 2006

Raja Chaudhary and Shweta Tiwari with their daughter, Palak

Apart from matching steps on Nach Baliye 2, the jodis are also busy devising ingenious ways of causing stress to their fellow contestants. So it seems Shweta Tiwari has devised a rather unique method of distraction.

One of the contesting jodis tells us that when Tiwari comes up to the others to wish them luck ahead of their performance, she also ends up rambling, “Don’t give a very good performance. Think about my husband and me, please! If you take all the scores we’ll be left with none!”

This practice has irked a few jodis, who have decided to lock themselves up in the green room to prevent their interactions with Tiwari. We try to get the other jodis to speak their mind…

Jokes aside

Narayani Shastri: She would keep rambling things like, “Do not put up a very good performance. Think about our jodi. We’re quite weak.” But I never really paid heed to it, thinking that she’s joking.

Gaurav Chopraa: Let’s be honest, from the time you get off the make-up van to the time you walk backstage, other jodis are constantly ogling at you. They try to gauge your look and get apprehensive about your performance and scores. They wish each other luck as a formality, but it definitely lacks warmth.

Healthy competition

Gouri Tonkk: Usually, Shweta performs after us, so we never get to see her before our performance. We’ve never exchanged words with her.
Yash Tonkk: There’s just too much chaos ahead of our performances. It’s healthy competition on Nach Baliye, and I don’t think that any
jodi is going to do something that.

Shallow talk

Shweta Kawatraa: We’ve been performing before Shweta so far, so we don’t really get to interact so much.

Manav Gohil: I’m not aware of it. But if any jodi is indulging in such loose talk then I must say that it only goes to show how shallow they are.

Unkind lot

Ketaki Dave: The jodis who get good scores look through the weaker lot. I wouldn’t want to take names, but there are people who are not so kind.
Rasik Dave: I have been on the show for only two weeks. But yes, people are quite anxious about their songs, costumes and steps. But that has never really caused any ego hassles.

Genuine friends

Gurdip Kohli: I have made so many genuine friends on the show. And thankfully, nobody has made any caustic remarks about us so far.
Arjun Punjj: This is unheard of. I perceive my fellow contestants as cheerful and jolly professionals. I don’t think they can do that.

Chilling out

Hiten Tejwani: I’m hardly bothered about what people say and do on the sets. I prefer listening to music and focus on my steps, because I’m not a good dancer.

Gauri Pradhan: Be it ahead of our performances or after a couple has been voted out, the atmosphere on the sets is pretty chilled out. As far as Shweta is concerned, I haven’t really faced this sort of behaviour so far.

Stooping low

Hussain: I don’t think anybody will do something as hideous as that. At least I haven’t faced it so far.

Tina: I’m not aware of it.

Dosti ki khatir

Sharad Kelkar and Keerti Gaekwad: Shweta is a sweet friend of ours. At least she didn’t do that to us during the show.

No talking

Tanaaz Lal: As it is I’m having enough stress learning my steps. I would rather not comment on it.

Bakhtyaar Irani: Just before we go up to the stage to dance, there are talks that start with ‘all the best’ and then veer to other things. I would rather not talk about it. I don’t even listen to what Tanaaz has to say, so forget Shweta Tiwari!

‘Shweta wouldn’t do such a thing’

While Shweta remained unavailable for comment, husband Raja Chaudhary clears the air. “Why would Shweta say such a thing? On the contrary, she would love to help out fellow contestants. Last week, during the technical rehearsals, she helped Hussain’s wife Tina do a step with ease. But I won’t deny the fact that there’s fierce competition on the show and no jodi really cares about anything else other than their own performance and scores.”
