kasautii..minus prerna?

‘ Kasautii…’ Minus Prerna? [28 Dec 2006]

Prerna’s character, the main protagonist, being played by Sheweta Tiwari in Balaji Telefilms’ KASAUTII ZINDAGII KAY is likely to end before the end of December. This is being seen by the Ekta Kapoor the only way to save the TRPs from falling, which she thinks might be possible after the aggressive promotion by Sony of its newly launched soap KULVADDHU, in the same time slot as ‘Kasautii…’. Earlier, too at the time of launching of Bigg Boss on Sony, Ekta had successfully used this publicity gimmick to save GHAR GAHR KI KAHANI, by giving a make over to the Parvati’s character.

Prerna to get the boot?

Prerna to get the boot?

Now you see me, now you don’t: Shweta Tiwari

RUMOUR HAS IT…

Even though Ekta Kapoor is winging her way to Bali with some of her actor friends to bring in the New Year, the Balaji czarina is all set to strike with a new publicity gimmick for one of her shows before the year ends.

Sony recently unleashed its new show Kulvaddhu with a publicity blitzkrieg and its timings clash with Kapoor’s popular show Kasautii Zindagii Kay on Star Plus. Those in the know say that Ekta will now create a buzz for Kasautii so that its TRPs don’t suffer (remember Parvati bhabhi’s makeover that clashed with Sony’s Bigg Boss?).

The hot gup doing the rounds in Balaji corridors is that Ekta is planning to bump off protagonist Shweta Tiwari from the show! And as we know only too well, this is not the end for good old Prerna. In true Balaji tradition, Prerna will be back in the drama before you start missing her too much. After all, don’t they all rise from the dead in Balaji soaps?

Kasautii ki kasauti!

Seeking divine intervention: The Kasautii team

Is Kasautii Zindagii Kay being yanked off air? The buzz in the telly circles is that the show, which has become extremely lacklustre of late, is on its last leg.

Anurag Basu (Cezanne Khan) and his family have been missing from the Balaji daily for quite a while. It is learnt that Cezanne has been missing in action as he has been shooting in Dubai for a show with ARY channel.

Several character actors have either walked out of the show in the past few months as they have nothing to do, and those who have steadfastly stuck on, are waiting for a call to resume shooting. Along with Kyunki and Kahaani, Kasautii has been Balaji’s driving force on Star Plus since the last five years. Despite a loyal viewership, the drama at present lacks that Balaji punch.

Time off

When asked producer Ekta Kapoor, however, maintains, “Kasautii is not shutting down. It is doing well.”

But the truth is far from it. It is learnt that the lead cast of Shweta Tiwari, Ronit Roy and Cezanne have been intermittently away for certain periods of time in the past few months — the reason why there were changes in the story track. Shweta was busy with Nach Baliye 2 and then she had an eye operation. Then Ronit was away in the US for some time and Cezanne took time off, too.

So obviously the drama had to start focusing on the others. Moreover, the sobering down of the menacing Prem (Manoj Bohra) proved to be a disappointment to viewers.

Says an onlooker, “The buzz that Kasautii is going off air has been doing the rounds for a while now, but there’s been no final decision yet. The show has been on for five years and it looks like it has reached saturation point. It is now focusing on Mr Bajaj’s brother. There are talks in progress and some key members of the cast have been asked how they would like to take the show forward at this juncture.”

Though there is nothing official about it, at the moment Kasautii’s dying plot has been noticed and that it needs a shot in the arm. Incidentally, in the same time slot there is Dulhann on Zee, Solhah Singaar on Sahara One while Sony is set to air its new drama, Kulvaddhu, from Christmas day.

NB 2 Finale under scrutiny!

NB 2 Finale under scrutiny!
18th December proved to be a lucky day not just for the Indian cricket team but also for the handsome couple Hussain and Tina who bagged the coveted trophy of Nach Baliye 2. They passed the acid test yesterday with flying colours by beating the contending jodi no 2 Yash-Gauri by almost four lakh votes!

Ruchika Shah gives you a breakdown on the D day of NB 2 - the mega final, which was packed with thundering acts by one and all!

The final jodis: The 15 minute non-stop riveting performance belted by the jodi no 2, Yash-Gauri and jodi no 8, Tina-Hussain was a treat to the senses. The songs chosen for this medley (khaike paan, jhum jhum, rock n roll) gave enough scope to the contestants to flaunt their steps individually, as a couple and as a foursome.

Thumps up: What needs special mention are the fab outfits donned by Tina-Hussian, especially the lady which made her look like a dazzling porcelain doll!

Thumps down: Can someone please tell Tina’s hairdresser that her hairdo was not apt for the moment, it came undone step by step making her uneasy by the end.

The evicted jodis: Sans any pressure of being evaluated, all the other contestants grooved together like one big family! Gauri-Hiten and Sharad-Keerti’s performance, though not that impressive was covered up by the looks department while newly weds, Arjun-Gurdeep gave their first performance post their wedding with a jhadu in their hand. Senior couple, Rasik and Ketki played safe by hip-shaking on a retro number. To watch the two effortless and suave dancers, Manav and Gaurav together, was quite remarkable! But Mr. Chopra’s dulcinea, Narayani seemed quite disinterested in the on goings. She made a comment “waise main to bura hi bolti hu?”(blame it on a bad hair day?).

Thumps up: It has to be the electrifying and groovy performance by Sarojji’s favourite, Shweta Tiwari who raised the mercury level by dancing on crazy kiya re. Proof needed? Kunal literally broke into sweat!!!

Thumps down: Must say Bhaktiar lacks sportsmanship! He’s still not got over the depression of his ouster and couldn’t even plaster a fake smile though his to be better half, Tanaaz played diplomatic to the hilt!

The judges: More than the jodis it were the judges who were bubbling with enthusiasm, so much that on every track played, they kept dancing in spite of being glued to their chairs. The editing department must have had a tough time putting together both the jodis and the judges dancing in one frame (lol). Saroj Khan took centre stage as she displayed her aadayein, her trademark thumnkas on main saat samundar and she rightly deserved a thunderous applause!

Thumps up: The sexy and spellbinding performance by Malaika (in an ultra sexy black ensemble) on yeh mera dil wins hands down. Tagged as a tribute to her Helen aunty, this act can easily beat the latest version in SRK’s Don. Is Farhan Akhtar regretting?

Thumps down: And what about Kunal??? Why didn’t he do ‘chance pe dance’ like the Khan ladies?

The choreographers: All the dance instructors to the TV celebs grabbed the limelight as each came forth and displayed what they know best! And what better song to be selected – Nach Baliye Remixed!

Thumps up: The harmony and fusion created between the choreographers was quite appealing!

Thumps down: When given a mike, the choreographers first are simply at loss words but once they get accustomed to it, we witness a verbal diarrhea!!! And before we forget to mention, Arjun-Gurdeep’s choreographer Pinky (who has often buttered Sarojji) needs to spank her designer! She looked an eyesore in those tacky and garish green pants.

The anchors: If we call this finale episode a well baked cake, the yummy icing can be credited to the anchors Shabbir Alhuwalia and Rajev Paul who entertained one and all with their Munna-Circuit spoof. Though unlike Arshad, Rajev has two left feet, he backed the small screen Munna with his funny mannerisms.

Thumps up: It was the hunk of tellydom, Shabbir who charmed everyone with his comic timing, his dialogue delivery and his tapori dance! Bollywood, are you listening?

Thumps down: Once again the fairer sex (Sangeeta Ghosh in this case) was left with just the same old task卆dd oomph to the show!

Our Verdict:

NB 2 has one more time lived up to its promise of entertaining the junta! All the hungama, drama and votes ka bol bala have paid off! No sooner has the second innings of this reality dance show ended, that the eagerness amongst the left out TV celebs, to participate in season three, has already bourgeoned!

Shweta Tiwari to host spiritual show on Big FM 92.7

Shweta Tiwari to host spiritual show on Big FM 92.7

What private demons work in a star’s mind? Is he scared of living through a nightmare that he wouldn’t wish on his enemy? Indya.com kickstarts a column where stars reveal their deepest fears.

Shweta Tiwari (Prerna of Kasautii Zindagi Kii) is now all set to start a new innings with another medium. She has been roped in by Big FM 92.7 to host their new show called Seher. This show is to be aired every morning from 5 to 7 AM. The show includes playing of Bhajans, Sufi songs and instrumental music.

Everyday a live aarti from Siddhivinayak temple would also be on air and on Tuesday a fixed slot between 5 am and 5.30 AM would be devoted for the aarti. Shweta would also be offering tips on prosperity, peace, and giving real life examples that can change your life. She would also give information about the day’s favorable hours.

Says Shweta, “I am really happy about doing this show as it suits my screen image and I find it interesting to connect to audiences without the visual medium.”

Though officially she’s the only RJ for this show, currently Shweta is recuperating at home, post her eye surgery. Somebody else is filling in for her at the station as the show is already on air as per schedule, but the powers that be are waiting for her to take over the reins.

A sneak peek into ‘Nach Baliye 2’ finale

A sneak peek into ‘Nach Baliye 2’ finale

Who will be crowned ‘Jodidaar’, ‘Damdaar’ and ‘Mazedaar’?

For all ‘Nach Baliye 2’ (Star One) viewers, December 18 is when one jodi amongst the ten competing jodis will be crowned the winner. The finale includes some fun packed performances by not only the eliminated jodis but also the anchors and judges.

For starters, ‘Nach Baliye 2’ offers a skit performance by Shabbir Ahluwalia who plays Munnabhai with Rajeev Paul playing Circuit. “We have actually changed the lyrics of the song- ‘Samjo Ho Hi Gaya’ from ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ and have added descriptions of the jodis and judges from ‘Nach..’,” says Rajeev. Non-dancers Hiten-Gauri and Sharad-Keerti will be seen performing on Qawwali numbers. And not surprisingly, the couples took more than two takes to get their steps right.

Shweta Tiwari got many compliments for her moves, while Raja who struggled with the steps was a supporting factor. The duo danced on ‘Krazy Kiya Re’ (Dhoom 2).

Gurdeep and Arjun, the newly- weds seemed to have no time to rehearse and despite practicing on the stage, got things wrong. Gurdeep was not feeling well but managed to pull it off in the third attempt. The duo will be seen dancing on a medley revolving around the marriage theme.

Gaurav-Narayani and Manav-Shweta’s splendid performance is something which will make the audience swing and dance. The last ousted jodi Tanaaz-Bakhtyaar and the eldest jodi Ketaki-Rasik danced on a medley together. Their power packed performance took many ceeti’s and kisses!

While all the jodis were battling to get their steps right, it was quite evident that the judges were getting irritated by the minute and Mallaika topped the list! Saroj Khan, too, seemed to be an aggressive mood, while Kunal’s attitude was very welcoming.

Apart from the title of ‘Nach Baliye 2’, three more titles have been introduced–Jodidaar, Damdaar and Mazedaar couple! And it’s the finale performances of the eliminated couples that will determine who wins these new titles.

Raja bangeya Hero!

Raja bangeya Hero!

Sweta (Prerna) Tiwari’s husband Raja Chaudary has
bagged two plum roles – a hero in Chandramukhi, a
television soap and a villian in a Bhojpuri movie he
is producing.

Prerna’s husband has struck gold thanks to Nach
Baliye. Raja Chodhury, one-time-actor and husband of
Shweta Tiwari (Prerna of Kasautii Zindagi Ki) won
hearts during his Nach Baliye performances. A bad
dancer, he strove to live up to the standard of his
graceful wife and was hugely appreciated for his
efforts. Now he has been offered a plum role in a
serial called Chandramukhi. Shweta and Raja have been
married for six years and have a five-year-old
daughter Palak.

Says Raja, “Sunil Agnihotri and Ravi Rai have offered
me a serial called ‘Chandramukhi’. I play the central
male character. The concept will be like the movie
‘Deewana Mastaana’. Ravi Rai will direct the serial.”

This is not the only serial offer he has got. He says,
“I have received a couple of more offers apart from
this one, but they are not in the concrete stage as
yet. So I can’t talk to you about them. I have got
these offers only because of Nach Baliye. Nobody
approached me with any offers earlier.”

The success of the TV show has also given Raja the
impetus to get into film production. Raja is also
producing one Bhojpuri film called ‘Hamara Saiyya
Hindustani’. Shweta and Ravi Kissen are playing the
lead roles while Raja is in a negative role.”

Talking about the film Raja says, “The film is 85 per
cent completed. It is a love story of a middle class
guitarist (Ravi Kissen) and professional dancer
(Shweta) and how they fall in love. I am playing a
negative role in this film, I try to create hurdles
for the hero and heroine.”

Since he is producing the film, why isn’t he doing the
hero’s role? He laughs and says, “My wife Shweta, told
me while we were discussing the story of this film
that I look like a villain. Since everyone knows that
we are husband-wife in real life, people wouldn’t like
to see us as a couple on screen. So I am doing the
negative role.”

So are there more films being planned in the near
future?
“Yes, I am planning to produce another Bhojpuri film.
The shooting for this film will start in March. Right
now we are working on the story; however cast is not
yet finalized.”

Meanwhile, get ready to see Raja on television…
