Kasautii Shweta ki…

Kasautii Shweta ki…

There has been a major shift in the story line of Kasautii Zindagi Kay. Catch up with Prerna as she shares with us the recent kasautii with her son.

Kasautii Zindagi kii is one of the most popular shows on STAR Plus. The character Prerna, played by Shweta Tiwari, is one of the most appreciated characters on the show. For a long time, the show had been focusing on issues dealing with her love life as she was always sandwiched between two lovers – Anurag, played by Cezanne Khan and Mr Bajaj, played by Ronit Roy.

However, off late, there has been a shift in the story line where a lot of weightage has been given to her kasautii with her son. So we caught up with Shweta Tiwari and asked her what she thinks of these changes.

Why has there been a change in the story line?
Kasautii Zindagi Kii has always been a story about a girl, where the various phases of her life have been shown. From being a teenager who falls in love with Anurag to marrying Mr Bajaj and becoming a mother, Prerna has come a long way. It is about the kasautii of her life. Dealing with issues related to her son is another kasautii. So it is just a continuation, there is no drastic shift.

Viewers have always seen Prerna as a woman who is stuck between two intense lovers. Do you think they would like to see her as a mother dealing with her son’s issues?
I do not think this should be a problem. They have already accepted Prerna as a mother. This is evident from the fact that despite portraying the role of a mother, I have received a couple of awards this year. I am sure they would accept it graciously.

Where does the story go from here?
I cannot divulge details about the story, but with respect to the show, Prerna is 55-56 years old now. At this age, it does not make sense if her husband is insecure about her. Having a love angle at this age seems like a misfit. So it is a perfect time to have a story, dealing with complexities in Prerna’s relation with her son.

What do you think about the instability in Prerna’s personal life?
It is all about making people believe. I agree in real life, it is not possible to have three to four marriages, and that too with the same man. But then again, television serials are about fiction. Despite this, people do watch the show and appreciate our work. It is also the responsibility of an actor to convince the audience. Moreover, I believe we have managed to do a good job.

Any message for your viewers?
I would like to tell all my fans to keep watching Kasautii… It is a story of an ordinary woman. Whatever situations and circumstances Prerna comes across could happen to any one of us. So, watch the show and help Prerna battle these difficult times.

Shweta Tiwari isn’t joking when she says she built her apartment with her tender hands.

The actress who plays Prerna in Kasautii Zindagi Kay (Star Plus) literally broke down the original structure of her cosy apartment in Malad, until it was redone to suit her needs.

“I had pillars removed, walls erected, and passages reconstructed!” admits Shweta with a broad grin. Proudly showing off every corner of her labour of love she says, “My friend Shubhangi Katale helped me design the house, isn’t it fabulous?”

Shweta also celebrated Raksha Bandhan yesterday with her brother Nidhaan. Interestingly Raj Logani who plays Garv in Piya Ka Ghar is Shweta’s cousin. Here’s a guided tour of her villa-fabuloso.

Presenting Ms Prerna

Ahmedabad Times

SHE may be best known for the sacrificing character that she portrays on television but don’t you mistake her as the docile lamb. Shweta Tiwari aka Prerna of Star Plus’s Kasauti Zindagi Kay has different shades to herself. A little too different to accept!

To start with, unlike Prerna, Tiwari is chirpy, talkative, smart and a people’s person. “The only thing common between Prerna and Shweta is the sense of decision-making,” she informs you. “In fact, I love to scream, go on a beach and dance at a disc.

Basically being in a group,” she laughs. Perhaps that’s the reason why the crowd and clutter at the opening of Personal Point Centre in the city didn’t really rub the smile off her face. The doeeyed beauty was “accidentally” discovered by theatre veteran Shahid Latif in a dance competition and thus she got acquainted to the lights of theatre.

“I did plays like Khoobsoorat Bahu, Kirayedar and Sardari Begum. After which Sohail Dattani gave me a break in the serial Rishtey.” Of course once on the small screen, escaping the Kbrigade was just not possible. Thus happened Kasauti… and Prerna was discovered. But isn’t this Prerna act affecting her?

“Actually a lot. People are not ready to take me as Shweta. They think I am this typical, traditional girl which I am not. I have been typecast into one particular image and it can be pretty irritating at times,” says a frustrated Tiwari. Not that she didn’t try to break the monotony of this “simple, sariclad Prerna”. She in fact did a music video for a Daler Mehndi number dressed in skimpy minis.

“But that also failed miserably,” she laughs. Occupational hazard you remind her and she bursts out, “Ya… but I am willing to do different things. That’s why I started doing Yatra (on Star Plus) where I am Shweta Tiwari and not Prerna.”

Her latest venture as an anchor person for Yatra has been accepted, but does that really excite her? “You have to do a lot of research work, you learn a lot and visit new places. In fact, my first visit to Ahmedabad was for that programme,” she says.

At 23, Tiwari has everything — a happening professional front and a happy married life. A step into Bollywood would only be a natural progression. She gives a nod to that but only “for roles with substance”. Perhaps, a Mother India-2. Considering the power-packed performances to her credit, this doesn’t sound too demanding. What say you?

Small screen’s big stars

SHE is by far the prettiest and the most popular face across channels at the 8:30 pm slot on the boob tube. Her fire and ice act as Prerna Sharma in one of Star Plus’ major money-spinner Kasautii Zindagii Kay, has earned her an impressive fan following.
For actress Shweta Tiwari though, there is much more than being just Prerna.
“No doubt Prerna is my biggest break and dream role but I want people to know me as Shweta Tiwari,” she told mediapersons at the launch of the new academic session of NIFD, Sector 8, on Monday.
On her first visit to the city, the Mumbai-based lady who originally hails from Allahabad spoke about her beginnings in acting.
“Initially I wanted to be a dancer and dreamt that people would take my name with as much respect and awe as they do with Helen but destiny had other plans. I got noticed at a dance competition and was offered a role in the play Khoobsoorat Bahu after which there was no looking back,” she says.
Theater in fact is something that the lady recommends strongly, “It’s the best training ground. The rehearsals allow you the chance to polish your acting and voice.”
On her association with Balaji Telefilms, Shweta avers, “Ekta saw me in a serial Aane Waala Pal and offered me a negative role in Karam. Then I got Kaleerein and Kaahin Kissii Roz after which she offered me Kasautii…”
Drawing analogies with her famous on-screen role, she says, “Just like Prerna, I am also naughty and love to laugh. Another thing which is common is that like her I too tell lies sometimes!”
As far as the Prerna, the character is concerned, “I like her strength and as for disliking I feel she becomes too sweet sometimes.”
Shweta who terms her eyes, as her asset knows her priorities well.
“I haven’t thought about films but if I get a Mother India or a Mrityudand then I will love to do it. Also, at this point of time I don’t want to leave television especially Prerna, whom I love too much.”
Item numbers apparently don’t find favour with her so she “will never do a film only for the sake of a song. Performance matters, otherwise it’ll be the same as Sonali Bendre and Mamta Kulkarni.”
Shweta who recently made heads turn with her skimpily clad appearance in Daler Mehndi’s latest video has two serials in pipeline.
“There’s Shrey Guleri’s Hum which has me in a double role and there’s another Balaji serial about which I cannot talk.” Here’s more to Shweta!
